In the green gloom of the gorge everything was different. Peter felt her heart thumping with fear, and some sudden instinct made her turn and look back the way they had come. Her hand flew to her mouth as she stifled a scream. A few yards away, two strangers stood watching them
"Never mind who we are, " said one of them. "We've come to warn you. We've been watching you snooping about and we've come to tell you that this is an unhealthy place. It's bad."
"What do you mean?" Peter said quietly.
The stranger sneered unpleasantly. "This gorge is haunted."
