When a meddlesome mother enrolls in university with her 19-year-old son, two worlds collide. As the dust settles, Frank inds herself, David finds love and those around them find their lives changed forever.
In this comedy drama written and directed by Mark Lamprell, a meddlesome mother finds life as a mature-age student has more pitfalls than she expected.
Staring Sinead Cusack (V for Vendetta, Stealing Beauty) and Sam Neill (Jurassic Park, The Piano, My Brilliant Career), My Mother Frank is poignant even as it amuses.
Frances Kennedy, a.k.a. Frank (Sinead Cusack), is a 51 year old, devout Roman Catholic living in a safe, secure and somewhat bizarre world that is boring her to death. Living through her grown-up children, everyone thinks Frank should get a life. So Frank enrolls at her son, David's (Matthew Newton) university and the worlds of mother and son collide as David's budding romance with a friend's girl creates tension. Frank finds herself battling just about everyone including the fearsome Professor Mortlock (Sam Neill), who sets her on a road fraught with trials.
Ejected from university for inadvertently cheating, she battles on and succeeds in turning the antagonistic and intractable Professor Mortlock. He relents and allows Frank to sit the university exams on the proviso that she must pass to get back in. Frank passes with flying colours and ignites a gentle revolution in everyone around her, and becomes an inspiration to those who want to change their lives but are afraid to take the chance. As the dust settles David finally wins the girl of his erotic dreams and Professor Mortlock discovers his humanity.
Guaranteed to have you laughing through the tears...
