This was topped off by an enclosing valve cover that kept all the oil inside the engine (and off the rider's legs!). A year after receiving the state-of-the-art new engine, Harley's Big Twin received a new front suspension. Hydraulically damped telescopic forks finally replaced the long-lived springer units. This led to the Panhead earning its official name, Hydra-Glide. In 1958, the Big Twin received a matching sprung suspension in the back, signaling the end of the factory-produced rigid-framed motorcycle. The Panhead was now known as the Duo-Glide.
